Not in a rush

Lesson

Taking time to make decisions is the art of waiting on the Lord. The bible says in Isaiah 40:28-31;

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is an eternal God, the Creator of the whole earth. He does not get tired or weary; there is no limit to his wisdom. He gives strength to those who are tired; to the ones who lack power, he gives renewed energy. Even youths get tired and weary; even strong young men clumsily stumble. But those who wait for the LORD’s help find renewed strength; they rise up as if they had eagles’ wings, they run without growing weary, they walk without getting tired.

Every single day, we encounter situations and decisions that concern health, marriage, children, friends or colleagues, organizations, finances, jobs and businesses. We generally seek to make the best decisions in every situation. No person typically seeks a bad outcome from decisions they take which concern them or loved ones.

Looking at how Jesus made his decisions can be very helpful to us. In Mark 6:30-44 we see that Jesus had some money in his purse to buy bread in order to feed five thousand men. His disciples requested if they may use 200 silver coins. Jesus did not jump at this suggestion just because money was available. Rather he looked inwardly and after consulting the Father within, looked up to heaven and gave thanks to God for what was available – a little boy’s lunch of five loaves and two fishes.

Jesus had some money in his company purse to buy bread in order to feed five thousand men, but did not lean on the money. Instead he leaned on the inner voice of the Father to solve this great need.

Some may consider such an act as unfair since Jesus already had money to buy bread and did not need to take a young lad’s lunch. In order for the Lord to show absolute faith in what God and not money can accomplish, Jesus chose to follow God’s counsel so that this miracle of multiplication could be seen. The little boy and his family would have also returned home with this blessing of multiplication. Jesus did this severally in the gospels.

This is what being submitted to God looks like and must be our model as Christians in decision making.

Our Lord Jesus Christ emphasized this as follows;

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Matthew 6:24 New English Translation

God wants to take first place in every decision where we have the power to make choices which seem harmless, especially decisions made with or for money, because of the power and influence of money on the will of man. Thus Jesus’ much misunderstood truth in Luke 18:24-25.

When Jesus noticed this, he said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”

Luke 18:24-25 New English Translation

We are not our own so let us glorify God in our choices and decisions, and we will flourish. Amen.

Reflection

Ask yourself: “Am I submitted to God in this area of my life?” as you review the last five decisions you made.

Prayer

Help me Father to be wholly submitted to you in every area of my life. Purge me from slavery to anything but you. I invite you into every decision I have to make from today, in Jesus Name. Amen.
